Danger: Make
Your House Cockatiel Safe
Pet Cockatiel face may potential danger that lurk inside our house.
Sometime this matter is overlooked by us. However, I would like to stress
here that a safe environment for us may not save to our tiny feather
friend.
Firstly, you should keep an eye to your Cockatiel, when they are out of
their cage. This is to prevent yourself to harm your Cockatiel
unintentionally. Pet Cockatiel is very tame and they may not fly away when
we more close to them (they trust us). However, you may accidentally sit
on them when they perch on the cushion!
Here is some guideline that you should consider when you let your pet
Cockatiel out of it cage;
1.Check the escape route before release the bird.
The window and doors (all) should be closed. You also should close or use
curtain to prevent the bird to fly straight to it (the Cockatiel may not
realize that there are glass in the window)
2.Don’t let your other pet that may harm your Cockatiel inside the room
with the Cockatiel. Your other pet may nice to you but they may not nice
to your Cockatiel-well, animal also know how to jealous! Therefore, if
your release your bird, don’t let your cat stay in the room with the
bird!
3. The door should be close all the time and you also should put a notice
outside the door to prevent other family member or your housemate from
entering the room or they canbe extra careful when enter the room.
4. Clear your room any plant. This is because some plant is poisonous and
can kill bird. Some plant like cactus, may even physically injured your
bird. Cockatiel like to chew plant, my Cockatiel even try to chew paper on
the floor. Actually they will chew everything that seem interesting to
them. You have to be extra careful with some plant such as ivies and
poinsettias.
5. DO not place any vases of cut flowers, in the room which you want to
let your pet Cockatiel fly free. This is because the bird could fly to it
which it may fall and broke. Well, even you love your Cockatiel very much,
it is still not nice to let the Cockatiel broke your furniture.
6. You also should cover your aquarium (if you have any) before release
the Cockatiel. This is because your Cockatiel may easily fall into the
aquarium when it try to perch on it. And if you unaware the Cockatiel may
drown in the aquarium. Even if the Cockatiel didn’t fall into the water,
it may drink the water which may contain some bacteria or chemical which
will harm the birds.
7. Any electrical fitting also should be switch of especially ceiling fan.
The Cockatiel normally try to perch at the highest spot, which normally is
your ceiling fan. If your Cockatiel try to do that when the fan is switch
on, it is a very bad news. If your house have a very fancy lamp, which is
easy to break, I think you should consider to let your pet Cockatiel fly
in other room.
