List of Food that I provide to I provide to my pet cockatiel Here is the list of food that I provide to my cockatiel. Since I have lots of cockatiel, I found that some of them will like some type of food while some other may prefer different type. The cockatiel food that I listed here should be only treat as guide, and you should aware that not all cockatiel will like to even take the food. sunflower seed (Helianthus annus) In Kuala Lumpur, I found that there were two type avaiable. One is longer and normally lighter in colour. Many pet shop owner name it 'China sunflower seed'. This type is cheaper but less quality. One more type is shorter and darker, but it has more seeds inside.
Canary seed (Phalaris canariensis) I found that all my cockatiel will enjoy this seed very much. They will prefer this seed compared to sunflower seed. In Malaysia, I think you can buy this seed in most pet shop because this seed also will be use to feed zebra dove (many Malaysian keep this birds due to her song)
Carrot I provide carrot to my cockatiel occasionally. Not all my cockatiel will love it but they take it in small quantity. I cut the carrot into small pieces and sometimes I slice it in to thin slices and give it to them.
Cabbage Some of my cockatiel like cabbage. However, they will take fresh cabbage only. when the vegetable is not fresh anymore, they will ignore it and I have to take it out.
'Kang Kong" - vegetable Many of by birds, (include lovebirds and budgie) love this vegetable. However, as usual they will eat it while the vegetable is fresh. After a while, if they unable to finish it I have to take the vegetable out. By the way, 'kangkong' is the name of a vegetable in Malay language. I am not sure what is the scientific name for this vegetable.
Bird Food Pellets I try to increase the pellets in my cockatiel diets. I think it is good for my cockatiel as it has more balance nutrition to my cockatiel. Some of the pallets also have include some vitamins which will help my job easier. (I don't need to add additional vitamin)
... and some other type of fruits (include apple, oranges) and other type of vegetables. Cockatiel will eat variety of food if properly trained, even meat (yes meat!)..therefore, you must provide only good and healthy food for them...and not all food that they eat... .
