Installing the bird in its new home

Arriving in new home may be stressful for the birds, with different environment, different people and also long and tiring journey. There are many precautious that you should looks for when you want to installing your new arrival Cockatiel. In this case, I assume that you already have cage and other accessories for your Cockatiel.

First thing to look is you have to make sure every doors, windows and other opening in your house or rooms are secured. This is to prevent the birds from escape by accident. In addition to that, you should also make sure everything in the house is safe for your birds. Switch off the fan, or any flammable object (say in the kitchen) and you should also the toilet bowl are closed and the other furniture (say flower vase) is removed.

The timing also important, for a pet Cockatiel, the best time (please note that every birds owner may have different idea) is before noon. This is because, your pet Cockatiel will have empty time to settle into it new home. Before the night come (in case the cage is dark at night). The Cockatiel also able to inspect every corner of the cage, which will help him not to hurt himself during the nigh if he fly.

Referring to the food and water station, you play place the similar container that is used by the pet shop or the breeder. This will help the bird find their food and drink easier. In this time (early coming) provide the same food that the birds usually eat. If you buy from the breeder, you can ask him about the birds favorite food, and income the bird decline to eat, you will know which food to provide to encourage them to start eating.

If your cage is very large and the food station is not in the ground, you may choose to supply some seed on the floor. Cockatiel are nature ground feeder, by using this method, you can prevent the bird from starring. This is of course only temporary before they used to the permanent food station.
